Collectivism, 12 emerging photographic artists, present Do You Dream in
Colour? a series of black & white, and colour photographs, that
draw inspiration from dreamscapes, songs and the oft‐held belief that
people only dream in black and white. An eclectic group, Collectivism
celebrates a diversity of ideas, styles and backgrounds.
From Ash Furnass's exploration of the darker side of life in images
that grip like a vice when we are at our most vulnerable, to Roxanne
Meik's work that delves into an imaginary world of humans and animals,
and Laura Clarke's self-portraits, reflecting on, and accepting, the
woman she has become: Masks, smoke, clocks, windows and even unicyclists
also feature in the artworks that make up the exhibition. Do You Dream
in Colour?
Newtown micro‐brewery, Young Henrys, will be partnering with COLLECTIVISM for the launch.
Everything must go Krystal Seigerman
23 May - 9 June 2013 Opening launch, Thursday 23 May 6-9pm
Krystal Seigerman's Everything must go
is a series of sixteen documentary photographs, exploring the decline of
small businesses through the microcosm of a stretch of Parramatta Road,
in Sydney’s inner west. Shooting in rich colour, Seigerman has focused
on the details of these once flourishing shops, which now stand empty -
the faded signage, the peeling paint, the papered-up shop windows - all
traces of what was. In doing so, she manages to find a melancholy beauty
within a road that is famously noisy, ugly and abrasive, yet full of
history.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Media Arts (photography) from
Deakin University in 2003, Seigerman has gained a reputation for her
quietly reflective documentary portraits. She has been a finalist in the
National Photographic Portrait Prize and a three-time finalist in the
prestigious Olive Cotton Award for excellence in portraiture. Seigerman
has also exhibited extensively with Many Australian Photographers
(MAPgroup), an independent association of documentary photographers.Current Opportunity
